I’m very pleased to see the way that Brazilians are running their operations, it is very technologically advanced. The quality of the cotton, after seeing it in person, I can say it is of extremely high quality.

Brazil has high productivity, most without irrigation, and production is in organized farms with impressive operation and efficiency. Our collaboration with Abrapa remains an important and effective way of expanding BCI’s reach, supporting Brazilian cotton farmers and ensuring that more sustainable produced cotton is available in the global market.

When it comes to sustainable cotton, Brazil is one of the first countries that comes to mind. Not only is Brazil top-five in the world in terms of yields, area dedicated to cotton, and overall production, but the climate is nearly perfect for cotton cultivation. Thanks to your abundant water resources, almost all of those vast cotton fields in Brazil are completely rain-fed and require no supplemental irrigation.

We are delighted to welcome ABRAPA—and by extension, Cotton Brazil—to the Make the Label Count coalition. Beyond the socio-economic importance of raw material production for many cotton farmers, the EU's PEF methodology must properly address the environmental impact of oil-based materials like polyester, which contribute to massive plastic waste and release microplastics into our waters and soils.
