Brazil has increased its cotton exports to India by more than fortyfold over the past two years, closing the 2025/26 marketing season with more than 350,000 tons shipped to the country. The results were presented by Cotton Brazil Manager Fernando Rati during the initiative’s participation in BharaTex 2026, India’s largest textile trade show.
This marked Cotton Brazil’s first participation in BharaTex, widely recognized as one of the world’s leading showcases for the textile industry. During the event, Rati represented the Brazilian Cotton Growers Association (Abrapa) and the National Cotton Exporters Association (ANEA).
“Our main focus was on building genuine connections with the textile sector, thanking them for their trust in our cotton, understanding where we need to improve, and, most importantly, solidifying our long-term commitment to this bilateral relationship between Brazil and India,” said Rati.
Brazil accounts for 40% of India’s cotton imports
According to Fernando Rati, Cotton Brazil returns from the event celebrating remarkable results. Today, 40% of all cotton imported by India comes from Brazil. “It is a very significant figure, especially considering that India is the world’s second-largest cotton producer,” he said.
“Two years ago, we exported 8,000 tons. We have now closed the 2025/26 marketing season with more than 350,000 tons shipped to India. The country has become an increasingly promising market for Brazilian cotton, and there is still room for growth. Our biggest challenge now is to consolidate this achievement.”
Rati also emphasized that BharaTex is a highly strategic event and will become a permanent part of Cotton Brazil’s annual calendar.
“I was truly impressed by the level of organization, the attention to all the details, and the way the entire Indian textile sector was brought together in one place. India’s textile sector has a clear vision for the future leading up to 2040, and we will certainly continue working closely with the industry’s key players to ensure Brazil plays a fundamental role in achieving their goals,” he added.
Technical training strengthens the competitiveness of Brazilian cotton
During the visit to India, Cotton Brazil also organized a dedicated workshop aimed at sharing best practices to maximize the performance of Brazilian cotton in spinning operations. The program included both theoretical and practical sessions covering spinning optimization, technical parameters, and equipment maintenance.
The workshop featured specialists from Wazir Advisors.
“This strategy strengthens our relationship with the industry because it demonstrates how companies can become more competitive by using Brazilian cotton,” Rati concluded.
