The ninth edition of the “Buyers Mission” took place in August and attracted textile mills from Bangladesh, China, India, Pakistan, Türkiye and Vietnam.

In early August, a delegation of 20 executives from major global textile companies participated in the Buyers Mission. Over one week, representatives from six of the largest cotton-importing countries visited farms, cotton gins, laboratories and organisations in the three largest cotton-producing states in Brazil.

The aim was to offer a full immersion into Brazilian cotton farming, from the fields to the classing rooms. This mission is conducted every year by the Brazilian Cotton Growers Association (Abrapa). In this ninth edition of 2025, the delegation brought together executives and professionals from Bangladesh, China, India, Pakistan, Turkey, and Vietnam – countries that represent 84% of Brazilian cotton exports.

Three of the main cotton growing states were visited. In Mato Grosso state, responsible for 70% of the country’s planted area, technology and traceability were the main focuses. The delegation witnessed the large-scale mechanized picking process which reduces the risk of contamination.

At the Nativa group, in Primavera do Leste, buyers could see how the bale tracking system works in practice, which tracks each module and bale from the fields to the exporting ports. In Cuiabá, a technical workshop explained in detail how Mato Grosso growers have expanded production without increasing the planted area and by adopting regenerative agriculture practices.

In Bahia state, Brazil’s second largest cotton producing state, the focus was on the quality of Brazilian cotton. The delegation visited Abapa’s cotton classing lab, the largest in Latin America, with 16 HVI testing machines. The buyers could see how the lot uniformity control system works as all as the consistency of the fibre length, colour grade and strength.

In Goiás state, precision agriculture and rigorous quality control processes were explained. At the Pamplona Farm, the executives could see how the sustainable crop management system is implemented, reinforcing Brazilian cotton’s reputation of excellence.

The Buyers Mission is one of the activities that are part of the Cotton Brazil program, through which Abrapa promotes Brazilian cotton and develops import markets. This program is run in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex Brasil) and is supported by the National Cotton Shippers Association (Anea).
