Pakistan to host Cotton Brazil mission starting on 24th
Calendar and Events |
From February 24th to 28th, a Brazilian delegation consisting of cotton farmers and exporters will visit the main textile hubs in Pakistan. The aim is to strengthen trade relations between the countries. In the 2023/24 marketing year, Brazil became the world’s largest exporter of cotton.
This initiative is run by the Brazilian Cotton Growers Association (Abrapa). This organization represents cotton farmers and is responsible for “Cotton Brazil”, an international program for Brazilian cotton.
“We already have solid relations with the Pakistani market, which is currently the fifth largest importer of our cotton. Our intention is to work even harder to meet the demands of this important partner for Brazilian cotton,” explained Abrapa vice-president Celestino Zanella.
In the 2023/24 marketing year, Brazil exported 165 thousand tonnes to Pakistan. Despite a 12% drop compared to the previous season, the amount still secured a 24% market share for the Brazilian product. However, taking into account the first six months of the 2024/25 cycle, cotton trade between the two countries has reached 157.36 thousand tonnes – indicating that sales will be higher this year.
Schedule. The Brazilian delegation begins its work in Karachi, an important industrial center and export hub. The schedule includes a series of technical visits to spinning mills, as well as meetings with business owners and an edition of the “Cotton Brazil Outlook” seminar. This event, promoted by Abrapa, will display the latest status of the Brazilian crop and the export prospects for cotton in 2025.
Lahore, Pakistan’s main industrial and textile hub, will also host an edition of the seminar. There, the program includes technical visits to companies, meetings with sectoral bodies and government representatives. In the country’s capital, Islamabad, the focus will be on agendas with the Pakistani Government.
Cotton Brazil. The Cotton Brazil program is run by Abrapa in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), a Brazilian government agency responsible for promoting foreign trade. The program has the support of the National Cotton Shippers Association (Anea).
